Salalah Free Zone Houses 47 Food Projects Worth More Than OMR775 Million

Salalah Free Zone is currently accommodating a total of 47 food projects, each valued at over OMR775.6 million, which accounts for 16 percent of the zone's overall investment volume.

Among the key sectors within the Free Zone, the focus is on milk and dairy products, fisheries, canned tuna, mineral water, sweets, and fertilizers. These initiatives are pivotal in elevating the Sultanate of Oman's status as a leading exporter of premium food products, thereby underscoring Oman's dedication to bolstering food security and fostering export development.

During a recent visit, Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, emphasized the Ministry's commitment to achieving strategic objectives in the realms of food security, agricultural and fisheries sector development, enhancement of water resources management, and the elevation of food product value-added.

This commitment was further highlighted during the Minister's visit to various food and agricultural sector factories within the Salalah Free Zone. The Minister had the opportunity to tour six principal factories, where he was briefed on the latest advancements in the food supplement and medicine sectors, particularly at Philex Pharmaceutical Industries Factory.

Furthermore, the Minister engaged in discussions with officials from these factories, exploring avenues to enhance food security through increased efficiency in meeting market demands sustainably.

The Free Zone is actively supporting these investments by providing economic incentives, including tax and customs exemptions, allowing 100% foreign ownership of production units, and eliminating minimum capital requirements, all with the primary objective of enhancing the zone's appeal to the food industry.
