Muscat: The dual-carriageway project, which has a total length of more than 51 kilometers and connects Duqm Airport roundabout with the crude oil storage tanks of Oman Tank Terminal Company in Ras Markaz, has been opened to traffic.
This project in Duqm's Special Economic Zone is an important new artery that solidifies Duqm's status as a global investment and logistics hub.
The dual carriageway stretches 42. 9 kilometers, with two lanes in each direction, and is backed up by a secondary road network totaling 11. 5 kilometers, including side roundabout entrances and airport access roads.
The plan connects the oil storage in Ras Markaz with Duqm Airport, passing via the Green Industries Zone and other significant projects under development.
It also connects to the route leading to Dhahr community and the important highway to Salalah.
This integration improves the connectedness of critical infrastructure and supports numerous important projects in the southern section of Duqm's Special Economic Zone.
Eng. Abdullah bin Salem AlHakamani, Director of the Technical Affairs Department at the Special Economic Zone in Duqm, verified that the project cost was OMR57. 6 million.
He stated that its inauguration marks a qualitative leap in Duqm's infrastructure development because it allows movement between main facilities, connects the airport with energy and industrial projects, and increases the zone's attractiveness to investors.
He said that the project was carried out in accordance with the greatest international quality standards and on time, demonstrating a firm dedication to creating a safe and sustainable atmosphere for economic and logistical activities.
AlHakamani emphasized that the dualcarriageway would help boost the regional and worldwide competitiveness of the Duqm Special Economic Zone by providing infrastructure capable of handling rapid investment growth and supporting logistical supply networks, which are critical for attracting investments in the energy,
Petrochemical and support service sectors.
Meanwhile, Eng Saif bin Saeed AlAmri, Project Engineer at Oman Company for the Development of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm "Tatweer," said that the project's scope included the establishment of a contemporary lighting network linked with an intelligent control and management system that is linked to sophisticated electrical grids.
It also included building culverts for runoff drainage along the road, ensuring the infrastructure's sustainability and the safety of traffic in a variety of weather situations.
A part of the project's budget was set aside to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), increase national company participation in big projects, and boost the local economy.
In addition to generating direct and indirect employment prospects for local talent.
As a result, the initiative is more than just critical infrastructure; it also serves as a development engine for promoting economic and social development.
This achievement reaffirms the Duqm Special Economic Zone's commitment to continue investing in integrated infrastructure that lays a firm basis for industrial, commercial, and tourism developments, converting Duqm into a global multisector economic hub.
