HPV Vaccine To Be Included In School Immunisation Plan

Khasab: On Wednesday, the Directorate General of Health Services in Musandam Governorate conducted a workshop focused on incorporating the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine into the National School Immunisation Programme.

This workshop is part of the preparations for the national vaccination campaign, which seeks to emphasize the country's initiatives in promoting student health and fighting infectious diseases.

The Ministry of Health plans to introduce the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as a component of the National School Immunisation Programme for sixth-grade students in both public and private educational institutions.

This initiative aligns with the World Health Organization’s evidence-based guidelines, which affirm the vaccine’s efficacy in preventing specific cancer types, particularly cervical cancer, cancers of the female and male reproductive systems, and other illnesses directly associated with the virus.

Bader Saif Al Rawahi, the Acting Director General of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, stated: “The implementation of this decision marks a strategic advancement in public health and aims to shield future generations from the impact of infectious diseases.” He highlighted that the groups targeted will receive the vaccine following a meticulously planned phased approach that adheres to both national and international standards in this area.

He also mentioned that the Ministry of Health is initiating a series of training programs for healthcare professionals in Musandam Governorate, which will subsequently extend to other governorates.

The objective of the program is to improve their readiness, enhance their knowledge and skills regarding vaccine administration, and ensure compliance with established standards for the cold chain and distribution.
