Cairo: On Wednesday, the Sultanate of Oman participated in the second session of the Arab Ministers tasked with the responsibility of risk reduction.
The assembly, convened at the Arab League's headquarters in Cairo, was presided over by Abdullah Nasser Al Rahbi. Al Rahbi, serving as the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, represented Oman during the meeting.
In his address to the assembly, Al Rahbi emphasized the critical need for the establishment of a unified Arab mechanism aimed at reducing the impacts of disasters and risks.
He articulated that this stance is a reflection of a genuine commitment to tackling shared challenges and achieving positive results that foster greater cooperation among Arab nations in the effort to minimize the occurrence and severity of disasters and risks.
Al Rahbi detailed the Sultanate of Oman's initiatives in the realm of risk management and the nation's dedication to narrowing the scope of disasters and mitigating their effects.
He highlighted that the Sultanate of Oman has established a working team comprising all relevant authorities to assess the risks facing the country, which include economic, social, health, and other risks.
Following this assessment, a National Risk Register was compiled, as noted by Al Rahbi, with the completion of both the short-term and medium-term records. He further mentioned that the team responsible for the project is currently in the process of drafting the long-term risk records.
