Dhofar Forum Explores Prospects For Sustainable Economic Development

Salalah: The 2nd Annual Dhofar Forum, convened in Salalah on Monday, examined the prospects for institutional integration, partnership, and economic development within the Dhofar Governorate.

This prestigious event was organized by the esteemed business magazine "Alam Al-Iqtisad," in collaboration with governmental institutions and private sector entities.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, the Governor of Dhofar.

During the proceedings, Dhofar Municipality Chairman Dr. Ahmed Mohsin Al Ghassani delivered a comprehensive overview of recent developments and initiatives aimed at transforming the Dhofar Governorate.

Dr. Al Ghassani reported that the Dhofar Governorate welcomed approximately 1.5 million tourists in 2023, with the majority arriving during the Khareef (monsoon) season. This period saw tourism expenditures amount to OMR103 million, significantly bolstered by charter flights that facilitated tourism spending valued at PMR23 million.

Representing the organizing committee, Said Masoud Al-Ma’ashani emphasized the forum's focus on leveraging Dhofar Governorate's comparative advantages to generate greater benefits and align economic strategies with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Furthermore, Abdullah Mohammed Al Abri, Director General of the Partnership and Privatization Unit at the Ministry of Finance, presented a working paper that highlighted areas of collaboration (focusing on sustainable economic development) among the government sector, the private sector, and civil society institutions.

The forum also featured a dialogue session titled “The Importance of Partnership and Integration in Supporting Economic Development in Dhofar Governorate.” This panel discussion highlighted the critical role of all sectors in enhancing the competitiveness of the Dhofar Governorate.

The program of the forum was enriched with visual presentations and working papers on sustainable economic development.
