Muscat: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) Council held its third meeting of the 2024/2025 academic year on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Mahad Said Ba'owain, Minister of Labour and Council Chairman, took place at the University's headquarters.
The Council looked at the University's 2026-2030 Strategic Plan and approved two new master's programs: Master of Science in Energy Transition and Sustainability and Master of Science in Food Security. Both programs will debut in the 2025/26 academic year.
A crucial decision was to adopt the Professional Practices Record as an official graduation document. This effort allows students to develop professional skills in addition to academic credentials, improving graduates' employability both locally and internationally. The standardized tracking system for student professional development will be implemented in Fall 2025.
Organizational restructuring has been authorized, which includes elevating the Quality Assurance Department and related divisions to academic units and renaming branch campus quality units Quality Assurance Centers.
The Council also approved a thorough policy revision framework to simplify institutional governance during this transformational time.
