The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has initiated a project to enhance the value of rose cultivation in the Wilayat of Jabal Akhdar, located in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
A budget of OMR150,000 has been set aside by the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund for this two-year project, benefiting 15 farmers.
The main objectives of the project include gathering essential data on rose cultivation and associated industries in Jabal Akhdar, collaborating with small and medium enterprises in the region, expanding rose cultivation by 5 acres, providing support for agricultural machinery, and enhancing trade practices.
Furthermore, the project aims to train 15 individuals in the production of rose water products and other related industries.
Hanan bint Saeed Al-Sulaimiyah, the Executive Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund, highlighted the significance of this project in improving the value of rose cultivation, emphasizing the importance of data collection and collaboration with local enterprises in the region.
The project's objective is to provide assistance in expanding the cultivation of local roses in Jabal Al Akhdar by an additional 5 acres. This expansion is particularly important for the old terraces, many of which have been lost due to natural factors and neglect.
To achieve this, the first step will involve identifying the agricultural sites and then rehabilitating them on terraces. Additionally, free seedlings will be distributed to farmers for planting rose plants.
One of the key goals is to introduce mechanization to enhance production in Jabal Akhdar. This will involve providing farmers with small manual tillers and other suitable accessories that are compatible with the local environment. The specific type of mechanization to be supported will be determined by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources in Jabal Akhdar State. The selection of beneficiaries will be done in a fair and cooperative manner, ensuring that the machines are distributed to those who will benefit the most.
