Cairo— The 16th Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee meeting took place in Cairo this evening at the level of foreign ministers.
The Omani delegation was led by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, while the Egyptian group was led by Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
During his address in the opening session, Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi thanked the Egyptian side for their warm welcome and hospitality. He stressed the deep historical links and ongoing civilizational bonds between Oman and Egypt, saying, "This session of the OmaniEgyptian Joint Committee is yet another blessed addition to the record of our positive cooperation, reinforcing the deeprooted ties that have been shaped and distinguished throughout history. " Today, we are reaping the benefits of these relationships for the good of both of our brotherly nations.
He emphasized the considerable growth in economic ties between the two nations, underlining the necessity of strengthening investment partnerships in real estate, tourism, renewable energy, manufacturing, logistics, food security, and pharmaceuticals.
He urged to activate the Omani-Egyptian Business Council and the private sector, as well as to prioritize startups, digital transformation, and innovation, stating that “this would enhance economic sustainability and keep pace with global developments. ”
On regional issues, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Oman’s support for Egypt’s efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, categorically opposing plans to displace the Palestinian population and endorsing the Arab initiative for Gaza’s rehabilitation. He reiterated Oman's unwavering support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legality and the Arab Peace Initiative.
He also emphasized that "Arab national security is indivisible," expressing Oman's support for Egypt's rights to Nile River waters based on international law and the principle of fair and equitable use, which promotes cooperation through mutual understanding and peaceful solutions.
Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi emphasized Oman's dedication to promoting regional stability and protecting its inhabitants from barriers to progress. He emphasized the need of resuming attempts to obtain a fair and long-term agreement on the Iranian nuclear dossier, based on international law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty, while rejecting imposed solutions by force, which lead to devastation and instability. He reaffirmed that dialogue and negotiation are the only ways to resolve conflicts and reduce risks.
He praised the efforts of senior officials from both sides in preparing for this meeting and expressed hope that its results would "serve as a qualitative addition to strengthening cooperation and fulfilling the aspirations of the two countries' leaderships and peoples. "
Dr. Badr Abdelatty, for his part, applauded the depth of Egyptian-Omani relations and their tangible progress under the direction of both countries' leaderships, which strive to expand cooperation to new horizons.
He emphasized that the current session represents a joint effort to build on the results of the reciprocal visits by the two countries' leaders. He noted that talks with his Omani colleague focused on methods to improve economic, trade, and investment connections. Politically, he valued the depth and alignment of perspectives on regional problems and their peaceful settlement.
The meeting included the signing of multiple memorandums of understanding and executive programs related to investment, labor, training, media cooperation, food safety, endowments, mineral resources, and human capital development, as well as the minutes of the 16th session of the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee.
The meeting ended with both sides emphasizing the necessity of ongoing coordination and consultation in a variety of areas, thereby strengthening the OmaniEgyptian partnership for the mutual benefit of their nations and peoples, as well as contributing to regional security, stability, and development.
