Geneva: Oman has reiterated its unshakable commitment to the principles underlying the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, as well as its intent to cooperatively collaborate with the international community in support of efforts to protect civilians and promote human security.
This occurred during Oman’s participation in the Twelfth Preparatory Session for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in Geneva, Switzerland, which has strong participation from member states and representatives of pertinent international and humanitarian organizations.
Ambassador Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Oman's Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva, presented Oman's statement during the opening round of the meetings.
He emphasised Oman's steadfast stance on the convention's basic principles and disclosed that the Sultanate of Oman has fulfilled all obligations specified in Article 5 of the treaty, demonstrating its strong commitment to carrying out the convention's provisions and cooperating with its enforcement mechanisms.
Captain Khalid Abbas Al Balushi and Colonel Mohammed AlKaabi led the official Ministry of Defence delegation to the talks.
The delegation attended the technical sessions, which included action plan discussions and strategies to improve international collaboration in mine recovery operations.
Oman's engagement in these discussions highlights its persistent commitment to humanitarian principles and dedication to the convention's aims.
It also represents the country's commitment to the value of collaborative effort in attaining a mine-free world, in keeping with the "Siem Reap – Angkor 2025–2029" action plan.
