Muscat: Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister, engaged in a phone conversation today with Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the Head of Hamas Movement’s Political Bureau, to discuss a proposed ceasefire.
During their discussion, Haniyeh confirmed the movement's acceptance of the proposal and the Palestinian side's endorsement of it. The aim of the proposal is to alleviate tensions, halt the violence, cease military operations, and facilitate the safe return of displaced individuals to their homes.
The proposal also includes provisions for the gradual release of prisoners and detainees, the implementation of binding measures, and the fulfillment of other commitments made by both parties. These commitments encompass lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip and allowing the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the population there.
Sayyid Badr expressed his approval of the proposal and conveyed Oman's gratitude for the efforts made by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar, in collaboration with the US administration.
Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, on his part, expressed his gratitude for the Sultanate of Oman's support for the just Palestinian cause. He emphasized the significance of continuous communication, constructive dialogue, and international endeavors to implement resolutions of international legitimacy.
