Muscat Taafi Centre For Rehabilitation Services Opens

Muscat: The Muscat Taafi Centre, Oman’s primary specialised facility for treatment and rehabilitation services for people recovering from addiction, was officially inaugurated today in the Wilayat of Al Amerat.

The inauguration was held under the auspices of Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi, Muscat's Governor.

The project is a component of Petroleum Development Oman's (PDO) social investment activities, conducted in collaboration with the Al Jisr Foundation and the Ministry of Health, and in line with national goals to improve mental health and infrastructure. The Centre provides integrated care in three key phases: detoxification, rehab, and aftercare.

The effort is regarded as one of PDO's most important contributions to community health. PDO not only gave financial support of RO 2. 5 million, but also monitored the project through its Project Management Consultancy team to ensure that it was completed to the highest standards, on time and within budget.

The facility has a maximum capacity of 130 beds, with 96 for men and 34 for women. It has a detoxification unit, outpatient clinic, forensic medicine section, pharmacy, and administrative offices. The Centre also has a multipurpose hall, vocational training and craft workshops, and recreational amenities for physiotherapy programs, including a swimming pool and a fitness center.

In his address, Dr. Yousef Al Farsi, Director General of Muscat Health, stated that the center is a meaningful, progressive step toward improving Oman's mental and social healthcare system. It specializes in offering an integrated package of specialized treatment and rehabilitation services for addiction recovery. The center provides a safe therapeutic space as well as comprehensive programs based on a strict scientific approach designed to enhance individuals' capacity for positive change.

Al Farsi stated that the center's programs employ the most recent worldwide techniques and technologies for addiction rehabilitation, following a stepped treatment approach. This starts with a medically supervised detoxification phase, followed by a short-term rehabilitation phase that emphasizes psychological support and self-stability. Finally, there is a long-term rehabilitation phase focused on establishing a healthy and stable lifestyle, allowing individuals to merge positively and effectively into the fabric of society.

"This approach seeks to provide real opportunities for a return to a normal, healthy life, thereby directly contributing to enhancing community safety and the psychological stability of society's members," he said.

Eng. Mohammed Ali Al Aghbari, PDO's External Affairs, Government Relations, and Communications Manager, stated, "The opening of the Muscat Rehabilitation Centre is an important step toward enhancing mental and behavioural healthcare services in Oman. " We are proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Health and the Al Jisr Foundation to deliver this unique project, which benefits the community while also aligning with our national responsibility and corporate values. PDO has collaborated to ensure that the Centre fulfills national standards and provides significant social impact, in keeping with the aims of Oman Vision 2040.

The Centre is expected to foster cooperation between the government, commercial, and community sectors, as well as to increase access to specialized mental health and addiction rehabilitation services throughout Oman.
