Japan: NTT Showcases Cutting-edge Technology At Osaka Kansai World Expo

Osaka: The Osaka Kansai World Expo was recently held in Japan, providing a global platform to present the countries, arts, and technologies of numerous nations.

At the event, NTT, a leading Japanese information and communication technology company, unveiled its cutting-edge IOWN technology.

This technology enabled smooth, real-time communication between Japan and Taiwan, with great bandwidth and improved energy efficiency.

NTT also participated in a digital rendition of the Kabuki play Senbon Zakura (A Thousand Cherry Trees), which combined the virtual performer Hatsune Miku with live stage performers.

Katsuhiko Kawazoe, Senior Executive Vice President of NTT, stated that this digital Kabuki performance is the tenth since its inception in 2016. At the time, the majority of the audience was older viewers. To generate interest in Kabuki among younger audiences, NTT planned a performance improved by its cutting-edge technology. I will never forget the initial event in 2016. Many young people congregated, primarily to view the virtual avatar Hatsune Miku. However, following the performance, many of them were brought to tears. I asked one group if it was impressive, and they said, "I realized I was deeply moved by Kabuki itself, that's why I wept. " I will never forget that reply. It confirmed for me that young people might be emotionally moved by Kabuki when given the opportunity to experience it in a manner that speaks to them.

The most sophisticated performance was a simultaneous, cooperative presentation by Japan and Taiwan, in which actual performers and virtual characters appeared together on a single screen.
Typically, internet connections cause a delay of many seconds. However, due to IOWN technology, this performance was delivered without any noticeable delays.

Katsuhiko Kawazoe, Senior Executive Vice President of NTT, stated, "I acknowledge that it was successful in reducing network delay and overcoming the limitations of distance. " Furthermore, a critical goal of IOWN growth is to assist protect the global environment by cutting energy use to one-hundredth of current levels. This is the ultimate objective. At the expo, NTT integrated this technology and effectively lowered energy consumption to one-eighth of standard levels.

Advancements in technology are providing previously unheard-of experiences in human social life, and NTT is demonstrating these discoveries to guests.
