Dreamliners Are Safe, Says Oman Air CEO After India Crash

Muscat: Following a recent Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash in India that killed nearly 300 people and raised new concerns about aircraft safety, Oman Air CEO Con Korfiatis has strongly reassured the public that the airline's Dreamliner fleet is still completely safe and operational, following an extensive internal check and close cooperation with aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

"The Dreamliner is a highly credible aircraft that has been flying safely for many years," he said.

"We've been in contact with Boeing, and while no definitive conclusions have emerged from the crash investigation, there is currently no evidence of a fleetwide issue. "

During a media briefing in Muscat to announce Oman Air's official entry into the oneworld alliance, Korfiatis discussed the increasing attention surrounding widebody aircraft safety, particularly the 787 series, which is used by many international airlines, including Oman Air.

“Safety isn’t just a priority — it’s the foundation of everything we do,” he said. “Following the event in India, we performed our own internal safety assessment. ” That's our usual practice, and we do it with or without an external event to prompt it. ”

He also stated that Oman Air's systems are regularly audited, both internally and by national and international authorities, and that the airline industry reacts with remarkable speed and coordination to incidents.

"This is a highly regulated, globally connected sector. " When something like this occurs, the whole ecosystem, from regulators to airlines to manufacturers, works in realtime to evaluate and respond,” Korfiatis said. “If there had been any actionable concerns, they would have been handled. ”

Oman Air's Boeing 787 Dreamliners form the foundation of its long-haul network.

Korfiatis concluded with a clear message to travelers: “Our Dreamliners are safe, and our commitment to operating at the highest safety standards remains absolute. ”
