Muscat: The Legislative and Legal Committee of the Shura Council has continued its discussions on the proposed Anti-Trafficking Law submitted by the government.
On Wednesday, the committee welcomed the Chair and members of the Omani Human Rights Committee (OHRC) to obtain their perspectives and feedback on the proposed legislation.
During the session, the committee reviewed the draft law's provisions with the OHRC members, identifying potential weaknesses and challenges within the current legal framework.
They also evaluated how well the proposed law aligns with pertinent international agreements and conventions.
This meeting was part of the committee’s fourth regular session for the second annual term (2024–2025) of the council’s 10th term.
Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Saadi, Chairman of the Legislative and Legal Committee, presided over the meeting, which was attended by committee members.
The proposed Anti-Trafficking Draft Law represents an updated iteration of the existing legislation, designed to align with contemporary legal standards, including the Penal Code, and to fulfill the requirements of international agreements.
The revisions aim to address practical gaps and shortcomings identified during its implementation, ensuring the law is prepared to confront new challenges in the fight against trafficking crimes.
The law intends to introduce improved measures for victim protection and incorporates best practices drawn from regional and international experiences.
