Prime Minister Of Iraq Visits Museum Of Frankincense Land In Salalah

Muscat: Today, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, visited the Museum of Frankincense Land located in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, as part of his official trip to the Sultanate of Oman.

Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Eng. Ibrahim bin Said Al Kharusi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage, along with various officials from the ministry. Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (who is also the Head of the Mission of Honour), joined the Prime Minister during this visit.

The Prime Minister and his delegation explored the museum’s halls and exhibits, receiving comprehensive explanations about its collections, which showcase Oman’s cultural and historical heritage as well as its rich civilizational legacy throughout the ages.

In the History Hall, which consists of six main sections, the guest observed exhibits that reflect Oman’s unique identity. This included the Geography of Oman section, which features maps and essential information about the country’s varied terrains and environments; the Oman in Ancient Times section, which documents archaeological findings of human settlement and the development of crafts and economic activities; and sections that emphasize the thriving copper trade and Oman’s historical connections with the civilizations of Mesopotamia, India, and China.

The Prime Minister also visited the Land of Frankincense area, which highlights Dhofar’s significant historical role as a key hub for frankincense production and export, along with its commercial and cultural ties that reach the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and Mesopotamia.

The Prime Minister observed the Islam in Oman section, showcasing manuscripts and documents that detail the voluntary embrace of Islam by the Omani people and their efforts in promoting its values and knowledge. He further explored the Highlights of Omani History section, which presents important milestones in the nation’s political and civilizational development.

In the Maritime Hall, the guest examined seven sections that depict the profound relationship Omanis have with the sea and their trade interactions with various global civilizations. He viewed models of traditional vessels and exhibits that emphasize their skills in building sailing ships and boats.

He also gained insights into the Navigation section, which highlights seafaring abilities throughout different periods, and the Trade section, which outlines the network of historical ports like Samahram, Al Baleed, and Sohar, and their crucial role in connecting the region to international markets.

Additionally, he toured the Virtual Sea Experience, which recreates ancient navigation settings, and the Renaissance section, which highlights advancements in Oman’s contemporary ports and maritime transport industry.

The visit also encompassed a tour of the Dhofar: A Natural History Wonder exhibition at the museum, which showcases the mountainous and marine environments of Dhofar Governorate. The exhibition features rare wildlife and a variety of plant species, along with scientific collections that document the natural history of the governorate.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Prime Minister of Iraq wrote a message in the Guest of Honour register, conveying his appreciation for the museum and its cultural and civilizational importance. He highlighted its function in fostering cultural collaboration and enhancing the brotherly ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq.
