Oman Launches Major Healthcare Initiatives, Including Early Cancer Detection Units

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has unveiled a substantial investment in its healthcare infrastructure, following the approval of several pivotal projects and programs by the Council of Ministers, led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. These initiatives represent a significant advancement in the country's healthcare landscape, aiming to foster a healthier future for all citizens of Oman.

His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, conveyed to the Oman News Agency that the Council of Ministers has authorized the initiation of a national program focused on the early detection of prevalent cancers among women. This program will establish seven specialized early detection units throughout all governorates, underscoring the government's dedication to enhancing quality of life, supporting families, and facilitating early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The program will incorporate cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence.

To further improve cancer care, a new nuclear and radiopharmaceutical facility will be constructed to address the increasing demand for diagnostic and treatment services. This facility will also function as a significant educational resource, positioning Oman as a regional hub for research and study in this domain.

In response to the growing need for specialized eye care, a national center for ophthalmology will be established. This center will be outfitted with the latest diagnostic technologies to cater to the community's demands.

In a groundbreaking initiative for personalized medicine, Dr. Al-Sabti emphasized the launch of the national genome and human data program (Omani Genome). This program aims to develop a national genomic reference database for Omanis, enhancing diagnostic precision and advancing the fields of precision medicine and healthcare.

The Minister underscored the Ministry of Health's commitment to executing these initiatives promptly and effectively, with comprehensive plans already in place.

Dr. Al-Sabti emphasized that these health initiatives and projects are in line with the health priorities established in Oman Vision 2040. This alignment guarantees equitable and high-quality healthcare access throughout all governorates, supporting the various health projects that are presently in the stages of construction and implementation.
