Muscat: On Wednesday, Oman Airports Company inked an agreement to lease an investment plot of land for the construction of a workshop that would focus on aircraft tyre and brake repair. The investment plan is part of the second phase of the Air Cargo Gateway of the logistical zone at Muscat International Airport.
The agreement was signed by Ahmed bin Said Al Amri, CEO of Oman Airports, and Hussein Abdullah Al Haddad, CEO of EPIC, the firm carrying out the project.
The project, which will be built on a 7,274-square-metre plot, will cost OMR5 million. Mach Aerospace International will offer inspection, repair, and refurbishment services for Airbus 320 and Boeing 787 aircraft wheels and brakes in accordance with the highest technical and operational standards approved for this sector. The project will improve the efficiency and safety of operational services at the airport.
According to Al Amri, the deal represents the commencement of investment in land surrounding Muscat International Airport. As part of its objective to investigate development and investment prospects in the Muscat International Airport area, the business stated intentions to invest in the region.
According to a statement provided to the Oman News Agency (ONA), Oman Airports has prepared an integrated master plan to maximize benefits from properties within the boundaries of Muscat International Airport in a way that promotes the development of high-quality projects that keep up with the area's future vision.
He stated that Oman Airports wants to improve the airport's commercial features by expanding its hospitality, entertainment, and interactive experience options. This strategy, he said, will boost the investment value of properties, improve returns from direct and joint initiatives, and help to maximise the revenue generated by investments in the real estate development sector.
Al Amri emphasized that the agreement is consistent with Oman Airports' overall plan to transform airport towns into active economic and logistical platforms that enable economic diversification and solidify the Sultanate of Oman's position as an integrated regional aviation hub for the sector and support services.
Hussein Abdullah Al Haddad, Chairman of EPIC's Board of Directors, stated that the agreement marks a significant step toward building a strategic cooperation between the government and the commercial sector in terms of investment possibilities at Muscat International Airport City.
According to a statement provided to ONA, Al Haddad stated that the establishment of a facility to repair aircraft tyres and brakes was in reaction to a genuine and growing need, especially given the constant increase in the number of flights and passengers passing through Muscat International Airport.
According to Al Haddad, having such workshops on the airport grounds saves airlines time and effort while addressing urgent technological issues, reducing delays and ensuring the smooth flow of flight operations.
