Salalah: Today marked the commencement of the 20th regional workshop on Satellite Applications (SAC20) at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) headquarters in Dhofar Governorate.

This five-day event is being organized by the Civil Aviation Authority in partnership with the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).

The workshop features regional and international experts from nine different countries and is part of a broader initiative to improve regional capabilities in utilizing satellite data for weather forecasting. It underscores Oman's dedication to enhancing its meteorological services and bolstering its regional and international reputation through scientific lectures, discussion sessions, and hands-on exercises.

The objective of the workshop is to encourage the application of satellite data and imagery in meteorological practices, which includes the monitoring of clouds, thunderstorms, dust, and various other weather phenomena. Additionally, it emphasizes the use of the third generation of Meteosat satellites, aims to develop the skills of weather forecasters and researchers, and promotes the sharing of expertise among the participating nations.
