Oman Participates In Preparatory Ministerial Meeting For Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit In Doha

Doha: On Sunday, the Sultanate of Oman took part in the preparatory ministerial meeting for the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha, State of Qatar.

The meeting focused on the Israeli assault on the State of Qatar, which targeted the residential headquarters of various Hamas leaders.

Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, led the Omani delegation.

Discussions at the meeting revolved around the Israeli attack and its significant implications for regional security. The participants aimed to establish a unified Arab and Islamic stance on these swift developments to enhance solidarity and safeguard security and stability in the region. Additionally, the meeting reviewed a draft statement regarding the Israeli attack on Qatar, which will be presented to the heads of Arab and Islamic states at the summit scheduled for tomorrow.

In his address, Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, remarked that the aggression against Qatar's sovereignty constitutes a clear violation of international laws and diplomatic and moral standards. He emphasized that the international community's inaction in holding Israel accountable has emboldened its continued aggression. He further stated that lasting security and peace in the region will only be possible when the Palestinian people attain their rightful claims and urged the international community to refrain from applying double standards.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, described the Israeli aggression against Qatar as treacherous, cowardly, and foolish, asserting that the disgraceful silence from the international community regarding these acts only emboldens Israel to perpetrate further offenses.

In addition, Hussein Ibrahim, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), voiced his support for Qatar in light of the criminal actions taken by Israel and emphasized the urgent need for firm measures to be taken against Israel.

The meeting included the presence of Abdullah Nasser Al Rahbi, Oman's Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Sheikh Faisal Omar Al Marhoon, who is the Head of the Arab Department at the Foreign Ministry, along with several officials from the Foreign Ministry.
