Oman Calls For Peace In Middle East

Muscat: As strikes between Iran and Israel increase, initiatives have accelerated to neutralize the current conflict.

Oman has been leading talks between the United States and Iran in order to achieve a sustainable and honorable agreement.

In light of the current situation, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik got a phone call from Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, on Friday.

During the meeting, they talked about regional developments in light of rising tensions and shared perspectives on how to deescalate the situation and reduce tensions, all while preserving security and stability for the benefit of all people in the region.

The Prime Minister of Italy expressed her sincere gratitude for the wise approach and positive role played by the Sultanate of Oman, under the direction of His Majesty, in supporting deescalation efforts and promoting dialogue and diplomacy in the region.

The two sides also explored a range of issues of mutual interest, reiterating their dedication to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two nations.

Meanwhile, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister, had a series of phone talks with regional and worldwide counterparts on Saturday. The phone calls are part of ongoing diplomatic attempts to rein in the hazardous military buildup and tensions in the region, which have been exacerbated by Israel's direct strikes on Iranian soil since the early hours of Friday morning.

During these discussions, Sayyid Badr emphasized the necessity of stopping the aggression and deterring the aggressor via peaceful means, grounded in international law and justice, in order to prevent further bloodshed, devastation, and loss of life, as well as to protect the security, stability, and ultimate interests of the region and its people.

Meanwhile, Iran has confirmed its withdrawal from the sixth round of nuclear talks with the United States, scheduled for Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Muscat, Oman.

Oman News Agency and Iranian state television stated that the negotiations have been halted until further notice, referring to diplomatic efforts aimed at limiting Iran's nuclear program.

The decision comes on the heels of recent Israeli airstrikes in Iran. The canceled meeting was slated to discuss disputes concerning uranium enrichment limits and US sanction relief.
