Muscat: The National Heart Centre has achieved significant milestones in the realm of cardiac surgery and cardiac care, mirroring the substantial and qualitative advancements observed within the Sultanate of Oman in delivering superior healthcare services to its citizens and residents.
Dr. Najib bin Zahran Al Rawahy, the Director of the National Heart Centre, remarked, "Since its inception in 2015, the centre has successfully conducted 4,274 heart surgeries for children and 4,094 surgeries for adults. Additionally, it has managed 154 cases utilizing an extracorporeal oxygenation device (ECMO) and performed 30,676 procedures related to cardiac catheterization interventions for artery blockages."
He further highlighted the centre's achievements in cardiac catheterization interventions, noting the successful completion of 4,310 procedures for children and 395 for adults, along with the implantation of 2,206 cardiac devices.
Dr. Al Rawahy underscored the comprehensive nature of the centre's services, which include a range of specialized clinics such as 3D echocardiography clinics, virtual clinics, visiting physician clinics across the regions, clinics for pregnant and fetal hearts, pre-anesthesia and pre-catheterization clinics, adult and pediatric heart clinics, heart surgery clinics for both adults and children, heart failure clinics for adults and children, and clinics for congenital heart defects in adults and children.
He emphasized that the centre's role extends beyond healthcare provision, with notable scientific achievements, including securing first place in the number of research papers at the Royal Hospital. The centre has also been recognized for its excellence, with two doctors and a nurse from the centre receiving top honors in their respective fields, and training 310 individuals in various aspects of heart care.
Dr. Al Rawahy highlighted the centre's international recognition, noting its pioneering role in the Middle East by successfully closing a heart hole (Atrial Septal Venosus Defect) in 2018. The centre has also been awarded the prestigious Gold Award for the best hospital project at the international level by the International Hospital Federation (IHF) meeting and received the Best Clinical Case Award at the Gulf Heart Conference 2019. Furthermore, the centre has performed complex and high-quality operations both globally and regionally.
He explained that the National Heart Centre is dedicated to advancing cardiac care in the Sultanate of Oman and the region, with a focus on training medical professionals and incorporating the latest therapeutic technologies.
Dr. Najib bin Zahran Al Rawahy, Director of the National Heart Centre, also mentioned the centre's commitment to spreading knowledge through scientific research, with 274 research papers published in peer-reviewed journals and participation in 93 international lectures, including live broadcasts of surgical operations at international conferences.
