Muscat: On Monday, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth hosted a symposium called "Culture, Sciences (Educational Sciences), and Sustainable Development" at the Literary Forum Hall in Muscat Governorate.
The symposium included Dr. Saif Nasser Al Maamari, Professor of Curriculum and Teaching Methods at Sultan Qaboos University's College of Education, with Dr. Huda bint Nasser Al Busaidi moderating.
The symposium, held as part of the Civilizational Horizons programme—one of the Literary Forum's efforts to foster cultural and intellectual debate—provided a platform for connection and exchange of ideas among intellectuals and cultural stakeholders in Oman.
Discussions focused on the interconnections between culture, science, and sustainable human development ideals, tracking their progression through diverse cultural and social contexts. Particular emphasis was placed on Oman's experience over the last five decades, as well as the contribution of natural, social, and human sciences to the attainment of sustainable human development goals.
The symposium focused on educational sciences, evaluating their contemporary integration into Oman, interaction with local values and knowledge systems, and contribution to sustainable human development endeavors. The conversations emphasized education's priority in Oman Vision 2040 and associated sectoral plans while also examining how local culture affects education and scientific research in Oman.
Notably, the Civilizational Horizons program promotes scientific research, creativity, innovation, and knowledge economy growth, in keeping with the goals of the 2021-2040 Cultural Strategy. These include strategic priorities such as Citizenship, Identity, Heritage, National Culture, Education, Learning, Scientific Research, and National Capabilities.
