Muscat: A significant milestone has been achieved in the Sultanate of Oman as physicians successfully executed the inaugural heart transplant sourced from a brain-dead donor for an Omani individual experiencing heart failure.

This complex procedure was carried out by a collaborative Omani medical team comprised of various specialties and spanned five hours.

In a media briefing, His Excellency the Minister of Health highlighted that this accomplishment marks a pivotal moment in Oman's healthcare progression. He noted that the heart transplant from a brain-dead donor adhered strictly to top-tier medical and ethical protocols, aligning with both national legislation and globally recognized guidelines regarding organ donation.

"This milestone is not merely the product of one medical team's efforts. It represents a holistic national vision that exemplifies prudent leadership, showcases national expertise, and embodies the ethos of humanitarian service. The dedication of healthcare professionals has shown their preparedness to fulfill medical responsibilities with exceptional skill and accountability. "

Dr. Qassim bin Saleh Al-Abri, a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the Royal Hospital, expressed, "The successful execution of the first heart transplant solely by Omani hands signifies a remarkable achievement, reflecting the substantial advancements within our healthcare system. This success is the outcome of years filled with dedicated effort, careful planning, and investments in our national talent. "

Dr. Alaa bin Hassan Al Lawati, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Head of the Cardiac Surgery Department at the National Heart Center, stated, "The first heart transplant within the Sultanate of Oman was conducted seamlessly and with outstanding success. This clearly showcases the sophisticated and unified healthcare framework in our country, and serves as a testament to the persistent dedication of all team members in recent times. ".
