Girl Undergoes Cerebral Angioplasty In Sohar Hospital

A cerebral angioplasty was successfully performed on a young girl with an arterial dilatation in her brain at Sohar Hospital. The procedure was carried out by a specialized medical team from the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital, in collaboration with the Neurology department at Sohar Hospital.

Dr. Ahmed bin Hamoud Al Habsi, a Consultant in Neurointerventional Radiology at Khoula Hospital, confirmed that the operation was necessary due to the availability of various specialists in paediatrics, internal medicine, cardiology, anaesthesia, neurology, and neurosurgery at Sohar Hospital. The operation was performed under local anaesthesia, taking into consideration the patient's heart condition and breathing difficulties.

The procedure lasted for one hour, during which a stent was inserted into the dilated artery. It is worth mentioning that the girl had previously undergone surgery at Khoula Hospital five years ago for a brain haemorrhage.

Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al Alawi, the Director General of the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, integration, and decentralization in providing healthcare services, particularly specialized medical services. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health's policy and aims to enhance the overall healthcare system.
