Diwali: A Time For Expats To Light Lamps And Spread Sweetness

Muscat: Indian expatriates residing in Oman are eagerly preparing to commemorate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is derived from the Sanskrit word "dia" meaning light, and "vali" meaning victory.

This auspicious festival, celebrated on the evening of October 31st this year, is anticipated to be marked by festivities extending into the weekend. The name "Diwali" is a testament to the significance of lighting lamps (or "deepa") during the celebration.

Diwali is a festival that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. In India, it is a time when special emphasis is placed on food, and during Diwali, families and friends come together to enjoy the warmth of togetherness and celebrate over sumptuous meals.

In Oman, the spirit of Diwali is equally embraced, with renowned Indian restaurants adding a touch of grandeur to the celebrations. Bombay Sweets, a cherished establishment in Muscat, has been a staple in the community for 34 years, serving up delectable treats for numerous occasions.

Established over three decades ago, Bombay Sweets has made a significant impact in Oman, with its flagship branch located in Ruwi High Street. The restaurant has seen tremendous success, with long queues a common sight throughout the day. Plans are in place to expand the chain further across Oman, showcasing its commitment to spreading the joy of Diwali through its culinary offerings.
