Muscat: The Muscat Governorate has initiated a multilingual awareness campaign titled ‘Take Just What You Need’ aimed at promoting food preservation and minimizing food waste. This initiative seeks to tackle the issue of food waste by encouraging individuals to purchase or prepare only the necessary amount of food, thus decreasing the surplus that ends up in landfills.
The ‘Take Just What You Need’ campaign addresses the ongoing challenge of food waste, as vast amounts of food continue to be discarded in or near landfills. Over time, this discarded food decomposes, producing unpleasant odors that disturb local residents and attract pests such as insects and mosquitoes. Furthermore, this situation increases the workload for sanitation workers and necessitates greater efforts to manage waste and mitigate the resulting pollution.
This campaign emphasizes several important messages for consumers, including the importance of expressing gratitude for blessings, valuing what one has, and assisting those in need rather than wasting food. Through these efforts, the Muscat Governorate aims to foster a sense of community responsibility and enhance awareness of the value of gratitude.
