Workshop Held On Green Hydrogen Ecosystem Readiness

Muscat: Hydrom, the Sultanate of Oman's green hydrogen orchestrator, hosted a workshop focused on preparing the green hydrogen ecosystem.

Representatives from the energy, logistics, and services sectors participated in the workshop.

During the event, Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hydrom, emphasized the significant advancements made in developing the green hydrogen industry in Oman.

In April, eight projects were signed with a combined investment of USD 49 billion. These projects aim to produce 1.38 million tonnes of green hydrogen, showcasing Oman's dedication to a sustainable and prosperous future.

The Minister highlighted that Hydrom has already allocated over 2,300 sqkm of land out of a potential 50,000 sqkm for green hydrogen production. These allocations have been predominantly awarded to energy consortiums involving companies from Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East, with investment commitments exceeding $49 billion, indicating strong investor confidence in Oman's capabilities.

The workshop, attended by government officials and key stakeholders, served as a platform to present strategic development plans, address challenges, and outline action plans to meet the 2030 production targets and Oman Vision 2040 objectives.

Oman is on track to become one of the leading exporters of low-carbon hydrogen in the region, with ambitious plans to transform its energy sector into a hydrogen-centric economy for the future.

Abdulaziz Al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom, emphasized the company's dedication to building a strong and profitable energy sector in Oman by maximizing the potential of the hydrogen value chain. Since its launch in October 2022, Hydrom has been proactive and efficient in its operations, with a commitment to delivering affordable, secure, and sustainable energy solutions for Oman's economy.

During a recent workshop, industry leaders focused on four key business streams critical to advancing Oman's green hydrogen industry. These streams included contracting and service providers, national talent and human capital management, licensing, and logistics.

In the contracting and service providers stream, participants discussed enhancing the capabilities of local engineering contractors and construction companies, as well as exploring potential international partnerships. The workshop also aimed to develop a roadmap for collaboration in human capital management to ensure a skilled workforce is available to meet the sector's needs.

Digitalization was a key focus in the licensing discussions, with participants exploring ways to streamline processes and improve efficiency. In the logistics stream, the emphasis was on expanding ports, facilities, and infrastructure to support the growth of green hydrogen players in the sector.
