US Special Envoy For Yemen Stresses Oman’s Role In Backing Peace Efforts In Yemen

Muscat: Tim Lenderking, the US Special Envoy for Yemen, emphasized the crucial role played by the Sultanate of Oman as a key partner in supporting de-escalation efforts in the Red Sea and promoting peace in the region.

During a telephonic press briefing, in which Oman News Agency (ONA) participated, Lenderking highlighted his meeting with Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman. He commended Oman's support for the peace process and its utilization of the ceasefire to address the humanitarian needs in Yemen.

Lenderking also emphasized the significance of engaging in consultations with both Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), given their pivotal roles in supporting stability and peace in the region, particularly as neighboring countries of Yemen.

Furthermore, he expressed concern over the ongoing attacks on maritime navigation in the Red Sea, which obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid to Yemen. Lenderking emphasized that this threat to global maritime navigation contributes to the increase in food prices and exacerbates the global inflation crisis.

Lenderking highlighted that his consultations with regional partners focus on de-escalation through diplomatic channels and leveraging regional efforts to achieve lasting peace for the Yemeni people. He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the United States to the peace process in Yemen.

The US Special Envoy to Yemen also stressed the importance of intra-Yemeni talks, supporting the Yemeni economy, and establishing a diplomatic framework to reduce escalation. He noted the international consensus in supporting the peace process in Yemen.
