OHRC Recommends To Include Business And Human Rights In Academic Curricula

Muscat: The Omani Human Rights Commission (OHRC) is hosting a two-day Business and Human Rights Forum in Muscat, which recommends that private universities and colleges be encouraged to include the topic of human rights in business environments in their academic curricula.

The forum also advocated for creating ethical rules that reflect these values in academic institutions.

Concluding its meetings on Wednesday, the forum urged private sector firms to adopt an ethical charter that would improve employees' ability to uphold and protect human rights in the workplace. It emphasised the need of incorporating the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights into corporate policies, as well as establishing monitoring and inspection systems to guarantee compliance.

The forum emphasized the significance of sharing expertise among organizations that implement human rights norms, particularly in supply chains, as well as publishing reports on their application to encourage transparency. It also emphasized the importance of increasing societal awareness of human rights and sustainable development in the workplace.

Furthermore, the forum suggested that private sector firms be encouraged to start human rights-related initiatives, as well as that persons with disabilities be included in the workforce while taking into consideration the kinds of disabilities and their appropriateness for several tasks.
