Thousands Of Invasive Birds Eliminated Across Oman Under National Campaign

The Main Committee for Combating Invasive Birds reviewed the progress of the national campaign against invasive birds in different regions of Oman, along with discussing the sustainability plan for the future. Chaired by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, the Chairman of the Environment Authority, the meeting took place at the General Office of the Environment Authority.

Since the launch of the campaign in December 2022, a total of over 923,000 invasive birds have been eliminated. Specifically, 559,453 invasive birds were eradicated in North Al Batinah Governorate.

In South Al Batinah Governorate, 188,333 invasive birds have been managed since January 2024. Additionally, 126,659 invasive birds were successfully removed in Dhofar Governorate, with the active participation of local community members in various teams and subcommittees.

In Muscat Governorate, a total of 48,634 invasive birds were controlled through collaborative efforts with different government sectors, implementing effective mechanisms to combat this specific bird species in the targeted areas.

The committee emphasized the importance of assessing the environmental impact of the campaign, highlighting the significance of raising awareness among the Omani citizens and engaging them as key contributors in minimizing the proliferation of these invasive birds.
