Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has progressed for the second consecutive year in the QS World University Rankings, reaching 334th place globally in the 2026 edition. This remarkable jump—an improvement of 28 places—demonstrates the university's ongoing efforts to improve performance and guarantee continual growth.
This year, the QS rankings featured 1,503 universities out of 8,467 assessed globally, including 112 new institutions to the esteemed list.
The university's progress was particularly recognized in important measures including academic reputation, employability outcomes, research citations, and international research networks. These improvements highlight SQU's dedication to producing highly competent graduates and maintaining a thriving research environment that outperforms benchmarks across several domains.
His Highness Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the University President, stated, "This achievement reflects reality; it is the result of dedicated efforts and an unwavering commitment to placing Sultan Qaboos University among the world's best institutions. " It also promotes the leadership we seek in improving educational quality and meets a key aim of Oman Vision 2040, which aims to have at least one Omani university among the world's top 300 by 2040. ”
Last year, SQU also made considerable strides in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2025. Petroleum Engineering came in 25th place globally, while Nursing was ranked 32nd, placing both programs among the top 50 worldwide.
These accomplishments emphasize Sultan Qaboos University's continued commitment to academic quality and research progress, reaffirming its position as a global leader in higher education.
