Muscat: The Ministry of Transportation, Communications, and Information Technology has announced the creation of a video game development bootcamp as part of the "Makeen" effort to promote digital skills.
As part of national programs aimed at developing Omani expertise in contemporary digital technologies, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology conducted the inaugural ceremony for the Video Game Development Bootcamp. The AlNahda Institute, in conjunction with Unity Technologies, is hosting the training workshop, which is being held under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Amer AlShezani, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Communications and Information Technology, and attended by a number of technology and video game professionals.
This bootcamp corresponds with the national goal of increasing digital skills and empowering Omani youngsters in new technology sectors, in accordance with the Sultanate's goals for digital transformation and a knowledge-based economy.
During the ceremony, Jalila bint Abdullah AlFannah AlAraimi, the Ministry's Future Skills Development Department director, stated: "This bootcamp aims to empower 50 job seekers who are enthusiastic and talented in game creation, through two specialized courses in programming and animation design. " The training is offered via a comprehensive 24-week program that blends theoretical foundations with real application, supervised by qualified instructors and specialists from both inside and outside the Sultanate.
She added: "The bootcamp is unique in that it emphasizes hands-on experience, providing participants with training possibilities inside technology incubators and allowing them to develop their own game projects. This helps them prepare to create competitive Omani businesses in this critical digital industry. "
AlFannah AlAraimi underlined: "Investing in national digital expertise is the foundation for developing a sustainable digital economy. This training is a practical effort to attain that aim by providing Omani youngsters with new opportunities to actively engage in the global gaming business. "
She said, "This cooperation with Unity Technologies – one of the world's top firms in game engines and interactive technology – is the first of its kind in the Sultanate with the program's implementing body. " It symbolizes a successful and beneficial collaboration in terms of technology and intellect. Unity is one of the most well-known names in the game industry, with its technology utilized to create more than 50% of digital games worldwide. This partnership presents a great chance for us to share our extensive and practical knowledge with the participants. ”
His Excellency Sheikh Humaid bin Jumaa AlShamsi, Chairman of AlNahda Training Institute, said: "This unique initiative is part of our goal to empower Omani youth and provide them with modern digital skills that have become the foundation of advanced global economies. "
He added: "The video game business is more than just entertainment; it is a knowledge-based industry that includes programming, design, artificial intelligence, and artistic creativity. From this standpoint, the concept of this bootcamp arose as a viable platform for qualifying our youngsters to participate in this exciting global sector. "
