Muscat: On Thursday, the Ministry of Economy hosted Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shueili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, for a discussion panel titled "Economic Scopes of Sultan Haitham City and Urban Development Projects". This panel was part of the Ministry of Economy's ongoing "Economic Knowledge programme".
During the panel, the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning emphasized that Sultan Haitham City serves as a model for modern towns in Oman. He highlighted the appointment of an economic consultant to analyze the long-term economic aspects of the project, such as total spending and revenues. Additionally, an urban development consultant was appointed to oversee real estate projects within the city's quarters.
Dr Khalfan emphasized that the development of Oman's urban landscape aligns with the vision outlined in Oman Vision 2040. This vision takes into account projected urban growth, population increase, and economic transition. He explained that steps are being taken to restructure and modify the direction of development projects based on this model.
The primary objective of Sultan Haitham City, according to Dr Khalfan, is to establish in-country value (ICV) projects and generate economic benefits for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the city's projects.
Furthermore, Dr Khalfan mentioned the formation of a dedicated awareness and media team. This team will explore marketing opportunities and participation in international forums, with the main goal of attracting investors and promoting further urban development in Oman.
Dr. Khalfan mentioned that numerous real estate development companies have shown interest in establishing residential units within the Sultan Haitham City project. He clarified that these interested parties consist of Omani, GCC, and international firms.
