Shura Council To Discuss Draft Media Law, Information Ministry Statement Next Week

On 22 April 2024, Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, will present the Information Ministry’s statement at a public session hosted by the Shura Council in Muscat.

This session is part of the 8th regular meeting of the council's first annual gathering in the 10th Term (2023-2027).

The day before, the council will convene its 7th regular session to discuss the Draft Media Law proposed by the government.

Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, announced these upcoming events.

Al Nadabi mentioned that the Minister of Information will address 12 key topics previously identified by the council. These topics include Oman’s media strategy and policy, media sector regulations, media training initiatives, the role of Oman News Agency, and coverage of local, regional, and international events.

The statement will also touch upon investments in media production, challenges faced by the industry, development of Omani drama, Governorates’ Media, and Foreign Media.

Discussions will also focus on the Government Communication Centre's engagement with other government bodies.

The Minister's statement will elaborate on how the media tackles social issues and addresses the media sector's challenges.

Al Nadabi highlighted that the session will involve debates on the "Draft Media Law," a significant legislation that has been under the council's review since it was submitted by the government earlier this year.
