Muscat: Construction and development on the sea dock project at the fishing port in the Wilayat of Quriyat, Muscat Governorate, has attained a completion rate of around 83 percent. The project's building cost is OMR2.979 million.
This project is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources' goal to build seaports and improve their function as an economic and development engine for coastal communities. This corresponds with Oman Vision 2040's goals of promoting the blue economy and creating an atmosphere that encourages investment.
According to Mohammed Abdullah Al Rashidi, a civil engineer at the Ministry's Directorate General of Fishing Ports, the sea dock development project is one of the most significant development initiatives in Muscat Governorate. He emphasized the Ministry's goal of diversifying the economy and creating an enticing climate for investment by developing the fishing fleet and delivering a variety of public and private services in the port.
Al Rashidi told Oman News Agency that the plan includes the building of a 185-meter fixed dock on the breakwater. This is one of a set of measures to help the maritime and fishing industries and encourage investment possibilities. The new pier is designed for mooring ships and boats, which will help to boost the efficiency of marine handling activities and extend the port's capacity.
He stated that the initiative includes the development of a new 33,000 square metre investment zone. This zone will be dedicated to encouraging marine and fishing-related businesses and services, which will boost local economic growth and fulfill investor needs.
He stated that the project also includes a special space for erecting a marine crane for ship and boat upkeep. This marks a significant advance in the port's technological services and strengthens its infrastructure's capacity to serve fishermen and boat owners all year round.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Rashidi emphasized that the port is projected to help the national economy, boost economic activity in Muscat Governorate, facilitate shipment and landing, and create new employment possibilities for citizens. Furthermore, it will encourage and improve tourism in the Wilayat of Quriyat.
