The government of Oman is set to introduce visas for Bangladeshi nationals in 12 different categories, as stated by Sirajul Haque, Chairman of Bangladesh Social Club Oman.
These categories will cover family visas, visit visas for Bangladeshi nationals residing in GCC countries, doctor’s visas, engineers' visas, nurses' visas, teachers' visas, accountants' visas, investor visas, and all official visas.
Arrivals of Bangladeshi nationals in Oman have seen a significant decline of more than 50% following the ban on visa issuance across all categories on October 31, 2023. In September, the number of Bangladeshi arrivals was recorded at 28,201, marking a decrease of over 50% within a short span of time. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) issued a circular on October 31, announcing the suspension of visa issuance for Bangladeshi nationals across all categories.
In an official statement, the ROP mentioned, “As part of our visa policy review, we have decided to suspend the conversion of tourist and visit visas to work visas for all nationalities entering Oman, as well as the issuance of new visas for Bangladeshi citizens, effective from Tuesday (October 31, 2023) until further notice.”
Following the visa ban, the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat assured that the measure would be temporary in nature.
