Oman Plans To Address Private Sector Challenges

Muscat: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, organized the "Partnership and Integration" initiative today.

The objective of this initiative is to address the challenges faced by the Omani private sector, enhance its performance, and align with the aspirations set by the Oman Vision 2040, which aims to establish a proactive and efficient private sector.

Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, highlighted that the proposed solutions discussed during the initiative will significantly boost the competitiveness of the private sector. These solutions are specifically tailored to address the real challenges faced by the sector.

The minister emphasized the efforts made by private sector establishments to contribute to the development of the national economy through the establishment of strategic partnerships. These partnerships play a crucial role in advancing economic development.

Al Yousef further stated that these meetings with the private sector highlight the importance of strategic partnerships, as they provide valuable proposals and initiatives through the OCCI.

The minister reiterated that the initiative aims to empower the private sector, create new business opportunities and projects, attract high-quality investments, promote exports, and foster a competitive business environment. He also mentioned that the ministry is actively working towards streamlining procedures, improving services, promoting fair competition, and preventing monopolies.

Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors. This collaboration aims to create a dynamic business environment that promotes sustainability and growth for the private sector. By doing so, the private sector can play a significant role in supporting the overall national economy and serve as a major source of employment opportunities.

Faisal Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), delivered a visual presentation elucidating the collaborative paths with the government's legislative and executive departments. The objective of this initiative is to foster a conducive environment for the consensus of ideas and visions, ultimately leading to the integration of sustainable solutions that enhance the performance indicators of the private sector and its contributions to the national economic system. Additionally, he emphasized the OCCI's strategic approach to enhancing the business environment within the private sector.

Dr. Adham Turki Al Said, Head of the OCCI Economic Committee, elaborated on the significance of the "Partnership and Integration" program in guiding the private sector towards sustainable growth. This program capitalizes on the opportunities outlined in Oman Vision 2040 across various sectors. Dr. Al Said emphasized the need for intensified efforts, accelerated achievements, and the establishment of a flexible legislative and procedural framework that supports the improvement of the business environment. These measures will contribute to a transformative shift within the business community.
