Cairo: The Ministry of Social Development of the Sultanate of Oman actively participated in the 3rd Arab Forum for Equality, which took place in Cairo. The forum, with the theme "Addressing Inequality in Times of Multiple Crises," was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in collaboration with the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and the Pathfinders Group "For Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies."
Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, the Minister of Social Development, led Oman's delegation at the forum. The main objective of the event was to engage policymakers, decision-makers, and civil society organizations from the Arab region in finding practical solutions to tackle inequality during times of crises. It also aimed to establish the connections between inequality and multiple crises.
During the forum, participants examined successful strategies implemented in various regions to reduce inequalities during crises. They also worked on formulating long-term policies to effectively address crisis risks and ensure stability.
Additionally, the forum included the tenth meeting of ESCWA's Expert Group on Social Protection Reform in the Arab region. This meeting provided an opportunity for member countries to discuss the progress they have made in developing comprehensive social protection systems and country profile reports.
Representatives from these countries shared their experiences, challenges, and best practices gained during this process, offering valuable insights to the forum attendees.
