Oman And Germany Sign Pact On Green Hydrogen

Several agreements were signed between Omani and German companies in Berlin for the delivery of green hydrogen to refining stations in Germany.

The Minister of Energy and Minerals, Eng. Salim bin Naser Al Aufi, met with Dr. Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in Berlin to sign a memorandum of understanding.

Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Hydrom (Hydrogen Oman) and the German company (VNG) for a feasibility study on establishing an Omani-German integrated supply chain for green hydrogen and ammonia. An agreement on the sale and purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was also signed between Oman LNG and Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) Company.

The meeting focused on the energy market needs of Germany, developments in green hydrogen and energy solutions, and other common concerns. Key officials present included Pankaj Khimji, Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Maitha bint Saif Al Mahrooqi, the Sultanate’s ambassador to Germany, and other energy sector officials.

The purpose of the minister's visit to Germany was to enhance cooperation in energy, leverage experiences in green hydrogen, ammonia, and other modern energy technologies, and address current challenges in the energy market.

During the Sultanate's attendance at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) Conference, Al Aufi emphasized the importance of global collaboration in the realm of energy transition. 

Dr. Firas bin Ali Al Abdwani, Director General of Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, highlighted that the visit serves as a chance to strengthen bilateral cooperation, share knowledge in the energy field, and establish new markets for low-emission hydrogen.
