Oman Airports Launches New E-gate System At Muscat International Airport

Muscat: Oman Airports has recently inaugurated its state-of-the-art e-gate system at Muscat International Airport. This innovative system is designed to expedite the verification of passports for both departing and arriving passengers, thereby enhancing the overall travel experience.

Key Features of the Project Include:

- Accelerated Travel: The e-gate system is engineered to facilitate faster travel for passengers.

- Electronic Transformation: This initiative is in alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and the overarching objective of digital transformation within the airport sector.

- Self-Service Capability: Passengers are empowered to complete travel procedures autonomously, thereby reducing waiting times and elevating the travel experience.

- Biometric Verification: The system employs facial recognition and fingerprint matching technologies for superior security and efficiency.

- Increased Capacity: The initial deployment includes six e-gates for departures and twelve for arrivals, capable of managing over 1,000 passengers per hour departing and 24,000 per day arriving.

Future Expansion Plans: Oman Airports intends to expand the number of e-gates to accommodate the growing influx of passengers.

Sheikh Ayman bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Hosni, the CEO of Oman Airports, highlighted that this advanced system represents a swift solution for seamless travel procedures conducted without human intervention. He emphasized that the primary goal of the project is to offer a fast and secure self-service experience for travelers, facilitating smooth and efficient movement while minimizing the time required to complete the process.

Al Hosni underscored that the new electronic gates will expedite the verification of travel documents and the comparison of these documents with the biometric fingerprints of both arriving and departing passengers. This process involves the capture of the traveler's facial print and its matching with the biometric fingerprint records stored in the Royal Oman Police system, ensuring an automated and self-service verification process that accounts for all necessary checks.

Muscat International Airport has been recognized globally for its superior performance criteria for 2023 and has witnessed a significant increase in passenger traffic. The introduction of the new e-gate system is a pivotal move in enhancing the passenger experience and operational efficiency.
