OHRC Concludes Participation In 53rd Meeting Of Arab Permanent Committee On Human Rights

Muscat: The Omani Human Rights Commission delegation, led by Minister Plenipotentiary Aqeel bin Alawi Baomar, successfully concluded its participation in the fifty-third meeting of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights. The meeting took place in Doha, Qatar, and saw the active involvement of member states of the League of Arab States and various Arab National Institutions dedicated to human rights.

At the end of the meeting, a recommendation was made to strongly condemn the continuous acts of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. The delegation expressed concern over the expansion of this aggression towards other Arab countries, resulting in the targeting of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. The delegation also highlighted the severe impact of the deadly siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, which has deprived the Palestinian people of their basic means of survival. Furthermore, the systematic destruction of vital infrastructure, including residential areas, hospitals, schools, universities, mosques, churches, and other essential facilities, was condemned. The intention behind these destructive actions was seen as an attempt to render the Gaza Strip uninhabitable, fueled by hate speech, racism, and incitement propagated by the Israeli occupation government.

The meeting also welcomed the establishment of the "Arab Forum for National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting, and Follow-up." This forum aims to foster cooperation, partnership, and the exchange of experiences and best practices among Arab countries regarding the implementation of national mechanisms related to human rights.

Additionally, the meeting called for increased efforts in implementing the Arab strategy for human rights. It emphasized the importance of collaboration and consultation with relevant stakeholders at both the national and regional levels in the Arab region.

The Omani Human Rights Commission's delegation consisted of Dr. Jamal bin Eid Al Khaduri, a member of the OHRC, Mrs. Labiba bint Muhammad Al Ma'awliyah, also an OHRC member, and Salem bin Khalfan Al Rushdi, the Head of the Media Department at the Omani Human Rights Commission.
