Ministry Unveils Executive Programme Of Sur As Arab Tourism Capital 2024

In collaboration with the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism held a media meeting yesterday to announce the executive program for "Sur, Capital of Arab Tourism 2024".

During the meeting, the Ministry presented the nomination file and the criteria that led to the selection of Sur as the Capital of Arab Tourism.

The South Al Sharqiyah Governorate Office stated that the executive program, commencing on February 25th, will consist of various events and activities aimed at showcasing the tourism value of Sur and its historical significance in cultural exchange.

These events and activities, scheduled throughout the year, aim to transform Sur into a popular tourist destination for both local and international visitors, according to the office.

Azzan bin Qassim Al Busaidi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, attributed the designation of Sur as the Capital of Arab Tourism 2024 to the collective efforts of the Ministry and other relevant departments. He emphasized that these efforts align with the tourism development plans.

The nomination file of the Wilayat of Sur, submitted to the Arab Tourism Organization, received the highest rating due to its fulfillment of specific criteria, including tourism diversity, infrastructure availability, and environmental conservation. Al Busaidi highlighted the Ministry's commitment to sustainability as the foundation of its future endeavors.

Al Busaidi emphasized that the selection of Sur as the Capital of Arab Tourism 2024 presents a significant opportunity to showcase Oman as a country capable of developing exemplary tourist attractions and providing unparalleled tourism experiences. This will be achieved by leveraging its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural landscapes.

Dr. Yahya bin Badr Al Maawali, the Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, expressed his views on the executive program, stating that it encompasses media and marketing campaigns not only in Sur but also in other parts of South A’Sharqiyah.

The executive program encompasses a range of initiatives aimed at empowering the local community. These initiatives will include campaigns that emphasize the importance of quality, safety, and training for individuals working in the tourism sector.
