Ministry Organises 'White Sails' Event To Celebrate World Tourism Day

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, organized a tourism event titled 'White Sails' on September 27, 2024, as a tribute to the World Tourism Day. This year's celebration was held under the theme 'Tourism and Peace', emphasizing the role of tourism in promoting global peace and enhancing mutual understanding among nations.

The event was a part of the executive program for Sur's designation as the Arab Capital for Tourism 2024. It was a two-day affair that highlighted the importance of tourism in fostering peace and strengthening international relations. The festivities also served as a platform to exhibit the maritime history of the Wilayat of Sur and its contribution to spreading the culture of peace and facilitating trade with foreign countries.

The event featured a variety of activities, primarily focused on heritage and shipbuilding crafts. It included performances at the White Sails Theatre, which showcased heritage art exhibitions and a seminar on the cultural exchange in tourism and its connection to global peace. Additionally, workshops on traditional shipbuilding techniques were conducted, among other engaging activities.

The venue for the White Sails event was the Dhow Factory in Sur, situated at the Khor Al Batah bank, which is equipped with various sections dedicated to traditional boat making.

The White Sails event was designed to highlight the maritime heritage of the Wilayat of Sur, offering a comprehensive experience to visitors through a range of activities that celebrate the rich cultural and historical significance of the region.
