Masirah Winter Forum: “Traditional Crafts Market” Attracts Attention Of Visitors

The "Traditional Crafts Market" in the Wilayat of Masirah, located in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, is a prominent feature of the "Masirah Winter Forum" activities. It attracts a significant number of visitors due to its status as a tourist attraction and a platform for artisans and productive families. The market holds great economic, cultural, social, and tourism significance within the Wilayat of Masirah.

Samtah Bint Ali Al Owaisi, the Supervisor of the Traditional Craft Market in the Wilayat of Masirah, emphasized that the market's participation in the Masirah Winter Forum stems from a genuine interest in promoting Omani traditional craft industries to forum attendees. The Wilayat of Masirah is renowned for its rich heritage and maritime-themed traditional crafts. The market serves as a comprehensive platform to support local craftsmen by showcasing and promoting their craft industries, while also providing them with a suitable space. It is worth noting that the market was established in late 2023 through collaboration between various government and private entities in the Wilayat.

Al Owaisi emphasized that the market caters to a diverse range of beneficiaries, offering services to productive families within the community, benefiting over 100 families. Operating year-round, the market showcases traditional handicrafts and products that encompass various aspects of heritage, the marine environment, and household items. Notable offerings include kohl production, burqa manufacturing, incense making, perfumes, Omani sandals, as well as a selection of luxurious adornments for Omani women. Additionally, the traditional craft market showcases palm handicrafts, textile, and spinning industries.

Al Owaisi highlighted that the traditional craft market attracts both local and international tourists throughout the year.

It is important to note that the traditional craft market plays a significant role in boosting commercial activity, promoting tourism, and preserving authentic Omani craft industries while safeguarding Omani heritage.

Masirah Island boasts abundant marine resources, serving as a source of income for individuals, particularly the elderly, and fostering the growth of the craft sector through participation in international forums and exhibitions.
