Muscat: The airports within the Sultanate of Oman witnessed a 5.1 percent increase in the number of passengers by the conclusion of September 2024, recording a total of 11,102,451 million passengers aboard 82,521 flights, in comparison to the previous year's figure of 10,565,754 million passengers on 80,065 flights.
Initial figures released by the National Center for Statistics and Information reveal that the Muscat International Airport saw approximately 9 million, 764 thousand, and 530 thousand passengers by the end of the previous month, marking a 4.7 percent rise in passenger traffic, with 73,137 flights conducted, an increase of 3.4 percent in flight operations.
Among these flights, 66,207 were international, accommodating 8,846,484 million passengers, and 6,930 domestic flights served 918,046 passengers.
Data further indicates that the number of passengers utilizing Salalah Airport for travel surged to 1,230,326 by the end of the previous month, representing a 6.8 percent increase from the previous month's figures. This growth was accompanied by a decrease in flight operations, with 8,374 flights conducted.
At Salalah Airport, international flights saw a significant increase, with 4,110 flights operated, carrying 542,327 million passengers, whereas domestic flights saw a slight decrease, with 4,264 flights conducted, accommodating 687,999 passengers.
Regarding passenger traffic at Sohar Airport, it reached 62,842 passengers across 544 flights, while Duqm Airport saw 44,753 passengers across 466 flights.
Concerning the nationalities represented at Muscat International Airport by the end of the previous month, Indians emerged as the leading nationality for both departing and arriving flights, with a total of 149,561 passengers, accounting for 79,097 arriving passengers and 70,464 departing passengers. Following closely behind were the Bangladeshi nationality with 104,509 passengers, distributed across 52,517 arriving and 51,992 departing flights. The Pakistani nationality was third, with 47,103 passengers, divided between 25,114 arriving and 21,989 departing flights.
