Important Notice For Omanis Heading To India: Embassy

Muscat: The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in India has issued a cautionary note to citizens planning to visit India, emphasizing the necessity of securing a visa that aligns with their travel objectives and the potential penalties for exceeding the allotted duration of stay.

"The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in New Delhi wishes to draw attention to the critical importance of securing the correct visa for travel to the Republic of India, tailored to the specific purpose of the visit (be it tourism, medical treatment, or academic study), while ensuring compliance with the visa's duration and not surpassing the stipulated limit, which is typically indicated and stamped on the visa upon entry. The internal legislation of the Republic of India is stringent and unequivocal in its stance on this issue."

Furthermore, the Embassy has highlighted that Indian regulations stipulate that a traveler whose visa has expired is barred from departing India, with the exception of obtaining an exit visa. This process, which can involve a minimum of three days and a fee that may exceed OMR 100, applies to all visa applicants, including those who have obtained visas not in alignment with their intended travel purpose, such as those seeking medical treatment under a tourist visa.

In light of these regulations, the Embassy advises citizens to exercise caution in the selection of their visas and to strictly adhere to the terms and conditions outlined.
