MUSCAT: Oman could soon see its first electric public bus on the roads, as Mwasalat, the Oman National Transport Company, has secured funding from two major companies.
On Tuesday, Al Maha Petroleum Products Marketing Company confirmed its sponsorship deal with Mwasalat Oman for the electric public transport bus project.
In a social media post, Al Maha Petroleum announced: “We are pleased to announce the agreement with Mwasalat Oman as one of the main sponsors of the first electric public transport bus in the Sultanate of Oman.”
Last week, Sohar International, one of the top banks in Oman, also showed its support for the initiative. In a post on its official LinkedIn page, Sohar International stated: “We are thrilled to announce the agreement with Mwasalat Oman as one of the main sponsors of Oman’s first electric public transport bus.
“This partnership is a significant step towards sustainable development, supporting the Sultanate’s goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050.”.
The electric bus, set to be launched soon, demonstrates our commitment to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly future.
The twin sponsorship agreements highlight the dedication of Omani companies to reducing carbon emissions and promoting green energy solutions. This initiative precedes the upcoming International Association of Public Transport (UITP) MENA Conference, which is scheduled to take place in Salalah on July 16.
Organized by the Oman Investment Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Mwasalat Oman, the conference will center around the theme of “Smart transportation for sustainable cities.”
The UITP MENA conference aims to provide the MENA region with global connectivity and knowledge, presenting the latest information and advancements in urban mobility.
Under the patronage of H.H. Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the conference will cover key topics such as ‘Advancing public transport infrastructure and integration,’ ‘Green technologies: Pioneering sustainable public transport,’ ‘Intelligent transit systems: Enhancing connectivity and mobility,’ and ‘Driving urban sustainability through public transport.’
Mwasalat plays a vital role in enhancing connectivity and sustainability in Oman, with the goal of enhancing the country’s public transport system.
