MUSCAT: Pilots and passengers utilizing the Muscat International Airport are advised to plan their journeys with a slight delay due to a notable alteration in the Passenger Boarding System (PBS) processing durations.
Effective immediately, starting Sunday, August 4, 2024, the deadline for passenger processing will be extended from the standard 20 minutes prior to departure to a more generous 40 minutes in advance.
This change was announced in a memorandum dated July 23, 2024, targeting all stakeholders, by the Oman Airport.
The airport authorities have highlighted that this adjustment is a strategic measure to enhance the passenger experience and optimize operational efficiency.
"In our continuous endeavor to improve the passenger journey experience and operational efficacy at the airport, a comprehensive analysis of the journey from the conclusion of check-in procedures to the boarding of flights was conducted. This analysis aimed to pinpoint the most efficient times for the completion of check-in processes and ensure the orderly progression of the boarding process according to the schedule of each flight, thereby mitigating operational delays. Consequently, beginning Sunday, August 4th, 2024, the PBS processing timeline will be extended from 20 minutes to 40 minutes prior to the scheduled departure."
A senior representative from a major airline confirmed receipt of the memorandum late on Tuesday evening.
The memorandum further stated: "This modification is applicable to all international flights, based on the average travel time from the farthest check-in counter to the furthest departure gate, which is approximately 40 minutes. This change is designed to provide passengers ample time to complete all necessary pre-boarding tasks prior to boarding the aircraft. It is in accordance with the commitment from airlines and ground handling agencies to conclude passenger check-in desks 60 minutes prior to the aircraft's departure."
All stakeholders are encouraged to collaborate to ensure the seamless operation of Muscat International Airport.
Travellers are advised to adjust their schedules to accommodate this new requirement and ensure a prompt and smooth departure.
