EA to finalize Nature Reserves Strategy soon

MUSCAT: The Environment Authority (EA) of the Sultanate of Oman, led by Engineer Sulaiman bin Nasser al Akhzami, is currently in the final stages of implementing the Nature Reserves Strategy. Recently, the EA has announced the establishment of two new nature reserves and aims to expand this initiative to various governorates in the near future. Oman currently boasts a diverse range of both terrestrial and marine reserves, showcasing the country's commitment to preserving its natural heritage.

Engineer Sulaiman bin Nasser al Akhzami, the Director-General of Nature Conservation at the Environment Authority, emphasized the importance of this strategy. He stated that the EA has conducted a thorough assessment of existing nature reserves and developed a comprehensive national framework for their management. The nature reserves in Oman are renowned for their exceptional biodiversity, with numerous species that can only be found within the Sultanate's unique environments. These species thrive in various habitats such as beaches, coral reefs, sand dunes, mountain valleys, and other natural sites.

The private sector in various governorates has been presented with a range of investment prospects in nature reserves by the Environment Authority since the conclusion of last year. Furthermore, an additional investment package has been made available this year and will be granted in the near future, as stated by the official.

The official further mentioned that the specialists at the EA are entrusted with the task of emphasizing the economic, social, and cultural significance linked to the nature reserves. These reserves are intended to offer a chance for both present and future generations to appreciate and cherish this remarkable natural heritage.

Al Akhzami emphasized that the progress of nature reserves is ongoing, however, it necessitates financial resources. The private sector is consistently introducing new initiatives, which will greatly contribute to the advancement of nature projects. These projects will be announced once the construction work for each project is completed.

He mentioned that the specific financial information will be revealed after the final agreement is signed. The existing investment opportunities serve as a significant source of income for the Authority through rental values and direct environmental contributions.
