Muscat: The Dhofar Khareef season is emerging as a pivotal force driving tourism and economic expansion within Oman. This period, characterized by its breathtaking natural landscapes and distinctive monsoon climate, has been drawing in a burgeoning influx of visitors over the past few years.
This rise in tourist numbers has catalyzed a significant increase in hotel construction and the establishment of tourist resorts. It is anticipated that the number of hotel rooms will exceed 7,000 this year.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is dedicated to improving the visitor experience through a variety of measures, including the introduction of new exhibitions at Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the enhancement of tourist attractions such as Al Baleed Beach.
The expansion of the tourism sector is having a positive ripple effect on other economic sectors within the Dhofar Governorate. There are ongoing efforts to prolong the tourism season beyond the Khareef period, including the launch of the "Sarb" season and the development of tourist destinations that are suitable for year-round visitation.
The Ministry is steadfast in its commitment to sustainable tourism practices, with plans to modernize the Frankincense Land Museum and create a public breathing space at Jabal Samhan.
Despite the optimistic outlook, the region is confronted with challenges such as the management of the growing number of tourists and the preservation of the natural environment. Nonetheless, with a strategic and sustainable development strategy, Dhofar possesses the potential to evolve into a premier tourist destination globally.
